Councillors Absent:     James Day

Additional Attendee(s): County Cllr. Dave Wood, District Cllr. Dave Rose, 2 parishioners and

                                        clerk.

 

Minutes

 

1.      Apologies – Cllr. James Day.

2.      Minutes – meeting September 10 read and signed as correct.

3. Matters Arising – (i) Moss on River View Road, cleared. ii) Smelly water on shore still a problem, clerk to write to Env. Agency. iii)Hedges at Church Lane have been cut back, thanks to Wrinch’s. iv) Field edge in Shore Lane has been ploughed, thanks to Phil Mayhew.

-          ADJOURNMENT – John Pollet said he’d be happy to collect a water sample for testing, from the shore if necessary. However testing needs to be done immediately, as soon as possible after collection.  Angela Fleming Brown said footpath at end of Slushy Lane, still not cut back. Clerk to speak to John Abbott.  Angela also concerned about large lorries running through the village. William said that the farmers did try to get the lorries to use the main road and Lings Lane, but not always possible, sometimes due to foreign drivers not understanding.  Lately Mayhew Farms had been doing a lot of work in the village area.

4.      Millennium Green – (i) – Inspected and book signed. Basket ball net is broken, Cllrs. Day and Hornsby looking in to buying new equipment , including goal nets.  Safety surface needs a good scrub as it is slippery and ROSPA had inspected without Peter Hornsby being present, despite requests that he be there. Brian Excell said the mower now needs a new battery, costing £66 +vat. Parish council agreed he order one.

5.      Planning Applications – B/07/1382 –Machinery shed, Vale Farm 2nd applic. –PC recommend refusal as the roof of the building isn’t in keeping with the surroundings.

HMS Ganges – Retirement Homes – As with previous applications, PC agree that the road in to Shotley and the increased traffic will still be a problem.

6.      HMS Ganges – No further news other than a new planning application.

7.      Financial Report – Current Ac. £171(+£800 from BP ac.)  BP Ac. - £4197  (+precept £1250 , -£800 to current) Savings - £1545.

8.      Expenditure this month – Village Hall room hire  three months at £13 - £39,  Clerk’s expenses 1.7.07 to 30.9.07 – £255.49.  Expenditure agreed and cheques raised and signed. Cheques also written and signed for previous month’s expenditure.  New cheque raised for village hall as previous one for April and May was damaged and  not accepted by the bank.

 

 

9.      Correspondence – Parishioner had written and complained about lorries turning in and out of Church Lane. This is cross referenced with what was said during the adjournment.

 ADJOURNMENT   Dave Wood gave a brief rundown of his latest report.

            Bluetongue disease has been found in Suffolk. It’s a disease which affects ruminants

            and is not harmful to humans. ii)A new service called ‘Give it a go’, has been

            launched, it’s for older people to find out how and where to volunteer their services

            and is managed by Age Concern. iii) Suffolk County Council recently voted 50 to 15

            to endorse nuclear power, following a recent government proposal for future energy.

           iv) The council ‘s cabinet will be discussing the future procurement of Suffolk’s waste,

                which can’t be recycled or composted.

10.  Any other business – Cllrs. Excell and Hornsby concerned about footpath information being correct. Cllr. Shone suggested they walk the footpaths and make observations.  Footpaths to be an agenda item next meeting.

11.  Date next meeting – Monday November 12 at 7.30pm.  Advance apologies from Dave Wood and Patty Shone.
